ESG Outstanding Awards 2025 (October 25)

Celebrating Excellence in Sustainable Development
We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the ESG 2025 Awards Ceremony held in Hong Kong this October. This event celebrated the remarkable achievements of companies that are leading the way in ESG practices.
Last year, the ESG Outstanding Awards made history by becoming the first in Asia to implement “pre-offsetting carbon emissions” and deliver a carbon-neutral awards ceremony. Continuing this commitment in 2025, the organisers estimated the event’s carbon footprint in advance and procured internationally recognised carbon credits to offset emissions, reinforcing their pledge to sustainable development. Winning companies attending the ceremony also received a Carbon‑Neutral Event Participation Certificate.

For 2025, the ceremony’s emissions were pre-offset using carbon credits verified under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
Offsetting was sourced from the Yunnan Kunming Two‑Area Improved Forest Management project (Project ID: VCS‑1542), located in Lianhe Township and Zhuanlong Town, Kunming. Covering 6,879.2 hectares of commercial forest, the project pivots from logging to protection, halting scheduled harvesting and implementing sustainable practices such as pruning and tending.
Over 20 years, it is expected to abate more than 820,000 tonnes of CO2e. The initiative enhances forest cover and ecological resilience, reduces emissions, and supports local livelihoods. It aligns with national and local sustainability policies and enjoys strong backing from local authorities and the public.

The ESG Outstanding Awards 2025 is organised by the ESG Outstanding Awards Organising Committee, with full support from Asia PR and THINK ESG; it is supported by renowned media in two regions—Bauhinia Magazine New Media and Guangdong Radio and Television Station – YueTV—as media partners; and Deloitte China serves as the intellectual cooperation partner. This is a cross-regional, cross-platform media joint coverage (covering the entire country and overseas) and cross-sector joint awards program, underscoring the awards’ representativeness and recognition
The awards recognise enterprises demonstrating excellence in shareholder rights, ethical governance, fair competition, and sustainable development. They encourage companies to advance environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and robust governance, setting a benchmark for the industry.

MTR Studio Data Visit (Oct 23)
Co-hosted by the HONG KONG ESG Club (HK ESG Club), MTR Corporation Limited and The Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (CanCham HK), members enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at how data, AI, and smart sensors are shaping safer, more innovative, and sustainable rail operations.
The data studio visit showcased live use cases across predictive maintenance, smart railway systems and customer-centric innovation, highlighting how MTR translates digital capabilities into day-to-day service reliability and a better passenger experience. Attendees also heard how the innovation development roadmap and cadet school are cultivating the next generation of engineers to meet increasingly complex, tech-enabled roles.
A lively Q&A unpacked practical implementation. Participants left with a clearer view of how AI, IoT and analytics can prioritise maintenance, reduce disruptions and enhance safety at scale.

CLP Company Visit (Aug 1)
The immersive visit, cohosted by HK ESG Club, CLP, and CanCham HK connected CLP’s 1901 heritage with its forward‑looking sustainability strategy. At CLP Pulse, members traced the company’s journey from the early Hung Hom generation stations, which served about 200 customers, to today’s diversified portfolio, spanning renewables (wind, hydro, solar), nuclear energy, natural gas and coal. The session illuminated how strategy and governance cascade into operational decarbonisation while balancing affordability, safety, and reliability.
Interactive demos and mini‑games translated energy efficiency concepts into practical actions for households and businesses, strengthening understanding of behavioural changes alongside system‑level transitions. The discussion also explored CLP’s disclosure practices and innovation pipeline, offering members concrete takeaways on designing credible roadmaps.

Towngas Company Visit (May 30)
Cohosted by HK ESG Club, Towngas and CanCham HK, the company visit spotlighted innovation and inclusion in action, from future fuel exploration (Green Methanol, Green Hydrogen, Sustainable Aviation Fuel) to operations that enhance safety and efficiency. In the Hall of Innovation and the Hall of Future Energy, members observed inspection and maintenance technologies that enhance productivity and occupational health and safety, with the added benefit of reducing traffic congestion through more efficient field operations.
A standout moment was the Smart Metering System, which streamlines meter submissions via a mobile app, reducing site visits and associated emissions. The accessibility programme provides specialised meters at no cost for wheelchair users and those with visual impairments, exemplified by a story of a deaf, visually impaired and non-speaking client who achieved independent readings. The visit continued to the 24/7 Grid Control Centre, where pressure and GIS-mapped pipelines are continuously monitored for rapid emergency response, and concluded at the Customer Services Hotline, demonstrating service excellence in real-time.

HSUHK Innovation Project Competition 2025 (13 February)
THINK ESG Ltd. led the “Facilitative Questioning in ESG Consultation” workshop as part of HSUHK’s Innovation Project Competition 2025 themed “ESG@HSUHK,” organised by the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Section of CTL.
The hands-on session introduced facilitative questioning as a structured, process-driven method that guides individuals to reflect, explore perspectives, and generate their own actionable solutions—distinct from content-based advising. Through issue-framing activities, a relatable collaboration scenario, role-play rotations, and a live demonstration on internships and career planning, students practised guiding, not directing discussions and saw how strategic inquiry can unpack assumptions and surface clear next steps. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting facilitative questioning as a practical leadership skill for fostering meaningful ESG dialogue and impact within the HSUHK community.

Sustainable IoT Solutions Seminar (January 17)
HK ESG Club and the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) co-organised the Seminar, featuring 5 distinguished speakers who shared their insights on Sustainable IoT Solutions.
Speakers explored how IoT and AI deliver measurable sustainability and efficiency gains, covering topics including energy optimisation strategies that keep businesses competitive, design thinking approaches to tackle waste management pain points, and proven smart recycling solutions that build greener communities with compelling data and case examples. The programme framed technology not as a gadget play, but as an enabler of cost savings, risk reduction and stakeholder trust.
Participants also gained clarity on the evolving carbon market in China and Hong Kong, including how Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) can support carbon-aware consumers and pioneering firms. The closing segment demonstrated IoT‑ and AI-enabled energy and carbon audits as benchmarking tools to surface opportunities and guide action. A dynamic Q&A distilled implementation lessons, giving members practical next steps for adoption.
